Chinese Herbs

Chinese Herbal Medicine is a key modality of Chinese Medicine

What are Chinese Herbs?

Chinese Herbal Medicine is part of a larger healing system called Chinese Traditional Medicine. Herbs are an internal medicine that can be used to treat both acute and chronic illnesses, and are prescribed to restore energy balance to opposing forces of energy, commonly known as Yin and Yang, that run through invisible channels in the body.

Chinese herbs are an excellent option for patients seeking naturally derived and gentle medicine and can also sustain the benefits of an acupuncture treatment.

A customised herbal formula is prescribed dependent on your signs and symptoms, and each formula is tailored to the individual. The prescription process is dynamic, meaning the herbs are adjusted as your symptoms change.

How do they work?

Chinese herbal medicines are mostly plant based, and can be prescribed as tablets, pastes, lotions, or powders, depending on the specific herb and its intended use.

Different herbs also have different properties and require different prescription types. Herbs used to treat acute conditions such as cystitis, cough, fever or period pain typically involve a one-off, short term prescription. For more chronic conditions, treatment may range from three to six months.

Chinese Herbal Medicine processing alters the properties of the herbs to suit the unique requirements of each patient. Some herbs can interact with traditional medicines to cause unwanted side effects, meaning that Chinese herbs are not suitable for everyone. Contact us or your GP to find out if Chinese herbs are suitable for you.

Which herbs are best?

Femme Vital uses Koda Herbs from Taiwan. The herbs are medical grade and are prescribed to dispensaries, medical centres and patients in Taiwanese hospitals. In Australia, the herbs are distributed by Yes China Herb in Sydney, who only supply to qualified Chinese Medicine practitioners.

The herbs undergo the highest quality testing and assessment before leaving Taiwan. Koda Herbs test rigorously for toxins, heavy metals and chemicals. It is a trusted, renowned and global brand for Chinese Herbs, and recommended by Femme Vital.

What to expect during your Chinese medicine consultation

Your Chinese Herbalist will learn your medical history and ask questions about your symptoms. She will feel your pulse, look at your tongue and potentially palpate your body. More FAQs here.
